Co-curricular activities

Co-curricular activities, also known as extracurricular activities, are activities that complement the academic curriculum in schools or educational institutions these take place outside of regular classroom instruction and provide students with opportunities of personal development, skill building and exploration of different interests. Here are some common examples of co-curricular activities we have at Lugard.

Training our children how to swim is something we consider. Yes, it can be challenging, but worth all the effort. We believe when children are introduced to swimming lessons as early as when they are toddlers, they build confidence, enhance water safety, it is good for their health, improves memory and coordination etc.

Learning how to swim is something your children will cherish and utilize all their life.

Physical development and movement are integral of learning. Children have fun as they develop their gross and fine motor skills like catching, throwing, dressing and undressing, feeding, balancing, stability and coordination etc.

Physical activities help children reduce the risk of heart disease, improves physical fitness, make bones stronger, aids in weight regulations, improves academic performance, promotes self-discipline, strengthen their peer relationships. Reduces the risk of depression and promotes healthy active lifestyle.

Support their physical development at school and home.

Variety of fun activities under home economic activities children enjoy at Lugard i.e. laundry, housekeeping, men planning, sewing, cooking and baking skills, table etiquette, home maintenance etc.

This gives our children a sense of importance and belonging which is essential for building social relationships and for contributing to the world, develops their levels of self-awareness and sensitivity towards others which teaches them to help those around them. For each and every human being the ability to solve problems and think analytically is very important. This is the same reason why today’s children require problem solving skills for their future development. Children should possess the ability to think critically, analyze and solve problems,

You may not want your little ones to grow up too quickly but independence is something they need to learn. If they don’t, then they may react with anger and resistance, suffer from feelings of abandonment and develop seemingly indifferent attitude.

The last thing we want for our children is for them to feel insecure and be vulnerable to external hazards, so start to encourage independence now. This will help them to develop into strong, competent and capable adults ready to take on the world and its challenges.

Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. At Lugard, our music classes engage children, inspiring them to perform, listen to and enjoy music across a range of genres, styles and traditions.

Through dance, children are challenged to develop their physical skills, practice coordinated movement, remember routines and work together with their class peers, all while being active and having fun. We also offer Ballet lessons.

Drama provides children with endless opportunities to express themselves creatively and gain confidence in their own performances. Children enjoy role playing and drama activities in their class as well as the opportunity to explore a more dedicated approach.

Playing football offers not only individual skill development, but also opportunity to be part of a team and to develop life skills like responsibility and leadership within the supportive team environment.
